Volume 3 Chapter 2 Quick Review
(Spoilers)
Here are a few of my thoughts on the episode. Firstly, due to computer virus problems, I'm not a Sponser, and so these posts will have to be written when episodes come out publicly until I can get the issues solved. In terms of the actual episode: surprisingly enough, I loved it.
Animation:
It was very action heavy and did a good job of demonstrating the new style. Of course, I'm not expecting there to be full on thirty second long fight scenes with no camera cuts for at least another couple of volumes. Even still, I was impressed with how they added far more movement to create a flowing sense to the fights. Also, particular praise goes to roughly 3:30 to 4:00 minutes, and Sun's Gunchuck takedown as both were pretty insanely well done. Of course, there's also the facial animation which has become brilliant in this volume all round. Dem scared eyes.
Dialogue:
First off, Gavin as Scarlet, putting on an even more British accent. Yes. And Sage with his one line was well shouted. Other than that, Neath Oum was great in this episode and cleared any doubts I had. We also got to have a quick scene with drunk Qrow which was cool. Other than that, it was well scripted as always, and Jaune's ship-name combo attempts were beautiful. Also anticipating what "Arkos" actually is. Team BRNZ and Team NDGO's brief lines were also quite a pleasant surprise.
Scenes:
In general, its hard to pinpoint individual scenes when its all fighting. However, finding out Nora's semblance was fun, as was Ren's moment of badassery. Jaune as always was fun to watch. And in the second fight, everything with Neptune and Sun was the best thing to happen in a while. I'm glad they actually played out his fear of water.
Music:
Team JNPR got the standard classic guitar riffs, and it was nice to see a return of Nora's short motif return in her hammer attack. SSSN vs NDGO had an upbeat pirate sort of theme which worked both to the setting and the characters involved. Other than that, Qrow's music had a definite dusty feel to it, which was just as I would have wanted.
Other than that, great episode and I hope to see more like it. Winter is coming soon, which should be fun. :)
