Anyway - RWBY. asifahdasihdasiodhas.
Animation:
From the preview, I thought this episode would be another badass fight, but was actually treated to some crazy plot twists that I'll talk about later. The fight itself was awesome and well paced. Again, I love Mercury's tornado ammo things.
Face animation were on point as always, especially with Pyrrha's constant wide eyed "so this is a thing" faces. We also had Yang looking believably worried at her situation at the end.
One final point is that the Grimm were looking awesome at the end there.
Dialogue:
So we have the whole "Four Maidens" plot line now. I think that eventually we'll have team RWBY being the new Four Maidens eventually. Something will probably go wrong with Pyrhha's change, making Ruby the most viable option. Before then, we've got to have Cinder become all powerful of course.
Another thing that we may get to learn is who the "Old Man" who granted this ridiculous power is. We also got to hear a bit about Ozpin being immortal again with the whole "you're not that old", "Well..." bit.
Also, I believe that there make have been another power of magic out there, the same one bringing Grimm to the world, which is now held by Raven. But hey, that's just me :P
Worryingly, Cinder seems to have already stolen some of Amber's power, and obviously, she seems like she might be getting more powerful quite soon.
Scenes:
Firstly - fight. Ngyahdahs. Awesome. We also know that Cinder seems to be capable of affecting what people in the arena see (Yatsuhashi behind Coco in chapter 4, and now Mercury attacking Yang in Chapter 6). Speaking of, Yang is royally screwed. Additionally she barely survived that fight, and something tells me that Merc hadn't been giving it his all.
There is also the fact that we got to see the final contestants there. A lot of familiar faces that were good to see, and some new, extremely dapper looking guys as well.
Finally, the Grimm are coming back, and oh boy does it look like they've felt a lot of unhappy people nearby...
Music:
Fight music was great as always. There was also a nice bit of forbodinginess in the first two thirds, but the best bit was undoubtedly in the scenes following Yang's "uncalled for" attack on Mercury. Hnng. Dat stuff was good.
Overall, I am loving this volume more and more. Bring best gurl Raven back, and I'm going to die of hype.

*Crowd starts to boo*
Yang - *peeks over edge* I guess not? *shrugs*
Prof. Port - *stands up* Oh my word!
Prof. Oobleck - *quick voice* In a stunning turn of events, Mr. Black has attempted…and…FAILED a surprise sneak attack
Prof. Port - Do you know what we’d call Mr. Black, back in the day?
Prof. Oobleck - A crutch-ing disappointment?
Prof. Port. No…*glares* A sore loser. What you said is stupid
Cinder - *from the stands* You had ONE JOB Mercury!
Security Guard - Wait? *turns head* You put that kid up to this?
Cinder- Shit! *hops over the railing, and runs*
HOSPITAL
*Mercury lays in his hospital bed, thoroughly peeved*
Nurse- *peeks in* Mr. Black? You have a visitor
Mercury - I don’t really want…..
*Weiss walks in*
Nurse - Thank you SO MUCH for your generous donation to this hospital Miss Schnee
Weiss - It’s no problem at all ^^ Just give me a few minutes alone with our friend here…and forget you saw me
Nurse - Of course *bows out*
Weiss - *puts down purse* *cheery* Hi Mercury.
Mercury - *suspicious* What are you doing here…
*Weiss’ phone buzzes to life as it plays a catchy ringtone*
Weiss - *holds up finger* Hold that thought
*hits speaker phone before burrowing in her bag*
Blake - Say hi Emerald…
Emerald - *anguished screech*
*Phone call cuts off abruptly*
Mercury - *winces* You know don’t you…
Weiss - *wearing one gauntlet of Ember Celica ,taking out the second* Yup! *pulls on second gauntlet*
Mercury - *nervous* What are you going to…
*Weiss punches Mercury in the knee of his healthy leg, breaking it*
Mercury - *screams* NOT AGAIN!
Weiss - *quickly pulls off Ember Celica, placing it back in her bag* That’s what you get! *gets in Mercury’s face, pointing aggressively* That’s what you GET! *intense stare*
Mercury - *convulsing in bed, crying profusely* You bitch *gasps in pain*
Weiss - That’s for what you were going to do to Yang! No Schnee'king away for you.
Mercury - Did you just…
Weiss - *in a huff* She’s rubbing off on me OK?!
*storms out of room*

ReplyDeleteIf she's going to turn evil soon, I'd be surprised if they killed her off as the series is still in its lighter hearted stage, but if she were to die, Jaune could well be the one to finish her off.

ReplyDeleteAlthough we haven't seen enough of him use it against human enemies to say for sure if this is the case, I like the idea. Especially if it is some kind of ability that he can improve as he trains.
DeleteIt'd also make him very useful in fighting against the human enemies RWBY, JNPR and SSSN will be facing in the near future :P
crocea mors is historically associated with Julius Caesar, which in another historical twist of fate, is thought to have been presented to him by Geoffrey of Monmouth (One of the originators of the Arthurian legend.) The sword is buried with Prince Nennius, who won the blade after was wedged into his shield during a fight, despite inflicting a minor head-wound to him in the process.
ReplyDeleteIn all of Nennius’ uses of the sword, it was fatal. And the reputation of the blade finally turned against its final wielder. Nennius died fourteen days after claiming the blade. From the only wound the weapon inflicted upon him.
So, historically, this theory has a ton of potential. There would need to be a sufficient incentive for a family to keep a weapon as an heirloom, rather that craft new tools every generation. This would explain it.
Because his sword seems so simple. It’s not like other rwby weapons. All other rwby weapons rely on dust and transform in some matter. Jaune’s weapon on the other hand appears to be a sword and ONLY a sword. And in the rwby universe i can not believe for a second that there is a such thing as an ordinary weapon. At least not for hunters.
This would explain why this weapon is a family heirloom. Something like this is powerful a new weapon wouldn’t be needed. The only thing that would really be needed is to keep up the repairs and keep of the sword itself. Make sure it stays sharp and the metal stays strong and there’s no reason it can’t be just handed down over the years.

That definitely makes sense. From the sounds of crocea mors' backstory, there could be all kinds things it could do (ie. any flesh wound could be lethal) or something, but in RWBY's world, bypassing aura makes the most sense.
